I'm back in town and catching up with the changes. Over winter the builders have been busy. I'm told conditions were mild while I was away.
First up is the three chalets under construction. They're looking good.
The Red Cat hangar which was just a concrete pad when I left is now complete.
An extension to the Soauthern Soaring office has been built. It now extends into the main terminal building.
Although the winter has been mild it did manage to snow on the hills after I arrived back from 30 to 35 degree daily highs in Nevada. Daily highs in Omarama are currently 5 to 10 degrees. The hills do look nice though.
I'm out of the country until August, so you'll just have to imagine how wet and cold it is at Omarama.
Don't forget the webcam and temperature graph on the Glide Omarama website.
It's still quite warm, but it's winter now. Every-one has packed up and the only people around are cleaning up or getting ready for next season.
It has rained for the last few days and been getting colder. There is even fresh snow on the Ohau range. Winter is getting closer.
Ross from Sailplane Services is here doing a few jobs and to transport a glider back to Auckland. ZK-GVQ will be looking fresh and shiny before we see it again. That is the motor Janus that has a long history in this area. It features in the Windborn movie as the glider Gavin and Lucy fly down to Milford.
The big news at Omarama is that Gavin Wills has bought Southern Soaring. No doubt this will be a big change for the commercial operations at Omarama. The deal was finalised earlier this week.
