Site Check

Before a pilot flies at Omarama they need:

• Current medical and BFR
• Current on glider type to be flown
• Current on launch method
• Current on local procedures from AIP and OAL SOPs and OGC SOPs.

If they're going cross-country they'll need to demonstrate knowledge of:

• Current landouts
• MBZ location and procedures
• CFZ locations and procedures
• Visual reporting points
• Current airspace, especially GAAs.
• Current radio frequencies and procedures
• Current flight following procedures

They will need a vehicle and crew for any retrieves. They will need to demonstrate simulated outlanding in 200 meters.

If they're going wave flying they'll also need to demonstrate knowledge of:

• High altitude flight
• Use of oxygen
• Transition Level/Altitude/Layer and related procedures
• Handling high winds on the ground
• Handling high winds and crosswinds on approach and landing
• Flight in extreme turbulence
